return to top
Kat Shaw click here for link to 'teachers'

Kat will guide you slowly and gently through the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga sequence to give you a full understanding of how Ashtanga Yoga is practised and how the breath correlates with motion. Specific inhales and exhales fluidly link the entering into and exiting out of postures, which steadies the mind and creates internal heat to release toxins, build strength and flexibility.

Ashtanga Yoga is a moving meditation where the body and mind learn to move as one. The result can be as simple as a stronger leaner frame or as complex as freedom from habitual useless life patterns.

This workshop will be a wonderful introduction to Ashtanga Yoga for complete beginners or a chance to deepen your understanding of this beautiful sequence for those who have a small amount of experience already.

Pranayama, £20 return to top
Helen Briggs
click here for link to 'teachers'

Prana is “life force energy” and yama is “control or mastery”. Breathing techniques are important within Yoga not only for improving the supply of oxygen to the body and also for strengthening the lungs, but the way we breath also has a direct effect on how we feel emotionally and physically, and on our state of mind.

Proper breathing increases energy, vitality and mental clarity, cleanses the lungs and eliminates toxins from the body. Pranayama serves as an important bridge between the outward, active practices of yoga--like asana--and the internal, surrendering practices that lead us into deeper states of meditation.

In this workshop we will look at how breathing affects your mood and energy levels and learn several different breathing techniques, leaving you feeling calm, rejuvenated, and uplifted.

Asana, Pranayama, Yoga Nidra: A Holistic Practice, £20 return to top
Hayley Price click here for link to 'teachers'

An opportunity to take your practice further and delve deeper into some of the more subtle practices of Yoga.

This workshop will explore Pranayama (breathing techniques) and Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) on a deeper level. Asanas (postures) will be included that help to release blockages, promote energy flow and open the hips.

Through pranayama the Pranic (energy) body is activated and awakened. Prana means 'vital energy' or 'life force', ayama means 'to expand’. Therefore, through the practice of pranayama, we are expanding our vital energy. A variety of breathing techniques bring the pranic (energy) body into harmony, infusing each cell with fresh energy and life force. Pranayama increases our awareness of the Chakras (energy vortexes) and cultivates the clarity and will power we need to guide us along our path.

Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) is a Pratyahara (sensory withdrawal) technique that can have a powerful transformative effect on practitioners. It is a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation. However, although one appears to be asleep, the awareness is awake and alert and the consciousness functions at a deeper level, taking us with it. Studies have shown that one hour of Yoga Nidra is equivalent to four hours of deep, restful sleep, leaving the body and mind feeling properly rested and revivified.

This workshop is open to all levels, however some familiarity with yoga asanas and the basic breathing techniques is advisable.

Kirtan, by donation return to top
Hayley Price click here for link to 'teachers'

‘When we see the beauty of our own being we are seeing the beauty of the Being that is the One of which we are all a part. And when we turn towards that One, love is the natural reaction of the heart.’ Krishna Das

Kirtan is the practice of call and response chanting and is often accompanied by the Harmonium. Chanting is a form of meditative practice integrating body, voice, mind and emotions. It teaches us to refine our ability to listen. It is not singing and is a good practice for those who feel 'vocally challenged' as well as for those who already have a good relationship with their voice.

Kirtan is the expression of that Love, the Devotion we feel towards that which inspires us to accept and turn toward our deepest Truth. Through chanting the various names of the Divine, we open ourselves up to an experience of That within ourselves. This is not a religious practice, although most of the chants come from the Hindu tradition, it is a pathway through which our hearts become open and our fears transform into Joy.

When we can surrender within this practice, allow the vibration of the chants and music to melt away our fear, doubt, delusions and self judgment, then we open ourselves up to the unimaginable, the expression of the Divine within.
