This workshop is a practical session for both mums-to-be and partners and will help you access your own intuitive understanding of this very natural process of giving birth.

We will explore a variety of movements and positions which may reduce discomfort and help you be more in control. There are many benefits if you can move freely during labour; contractions are more effective; blood supply to baby is improved; downward force of gravity in wide pelvic positions means an easier birth for your baby. You will also learn several breathing, relaxation and visualisation techniques to nourish the body & mind and help during the various stages of labour and birth.

The ideal time to participate in these workshops is around 4 weeks before your due date.

HypnoBirthing® is a complete birth education programme that teaches simple but specific self hypnosis, relaxation and breathing techniques for a better birth.

With HypnoBirthing®, you'll discover that severe pain does not have to be an accompaniment of labour. You'll learn how to release the fears and anxieties you may currently have about giving birth, and how to overcome previous traumatic births. HypnoBirthing® lets you discover and experience the joy and magic of birth. Most importantly, you'll learn how to put yourself back in control of your birth - rather than turning your birthing experience over to your doctor or midwife.

In short, HypnoBirthing® allows you to experience birth in an atmosphere of calm relaxation, free of the fear and tension that prevents the birthing muscles of your body from functioning as Nature intended them to.

The programme is a 12 hour course split into 4 x 3 hour classes and is designed for ladies and their birthing partners and is an ideal complement to our prenatal yoga classes and birth preparation workshop.

Please contact us if you would like to join a course, as additional courses will be arranged if necessary. 2011 dates will be released shortly, please contact us to be informed of these dates.

Pranayama Workshop return to top

Prana is “life force energy” and yama is “control or mastery”. Breathing techniques are important within Yoga not only for improving the supply of oxygen to the body and also for strengthening the lungs, but the way we breath also has a direct effect on how we feel emotionally and physically, and on our state of mind.

Proper breathing increases energy, vitality and mental clarity, cleanses the lungs and eliminates toxins from the body. Pranayama serves as an important bridge between the outward, active practices of yoga--like asana--and the internal, surrendering practices that lead us into deeper states of meditation.

In this workshop we will look at how breathing affects your mood and energy levels and learn several different breathing techniques, leaving you feeling calm, rejuvenated, and uplifted.

Yoga Nidra is a deep relaxation class. Often called “yogic sleep”, Yoga Nidra, induces complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation, which is vital to keep the body healthy. You are taken to a state between sleep and wakefulness, where you maintain a conscious awareness at a deeper level, while remaining fully awake and alert. This state of conscious awareness is extremely beneficial; for releasing stress, resolving suppressed conflicts or memories and for experiencing the joy of subtler spiritual explorations or experiences. By relaxing all the muscles deeply, energy flows freely and the body is rejuvenated and a deep sense of inner peace is attained.

You will leave the workshop feeling more rested than you would do after a good night's sleep.

Yin Yoga is a slow, passive form of yoga that stretches and stimulates the connective tissue rather than the muscles, so enabling very deep work on the ligaments and fascia that more yang (dynamic) yoga practices cannot offer. The postures are simple and accessible, and are held for an extended period of time. This is a very relaxing and revitalising form of yoga that is beneficial for both beginners and experienced yogis, and is a great complement to a yang style practice.

In this class we will be working with yin yoga postures for stretching and strengthening the spine and hips. This class is suitable for everyone (although if you have any injuries or other health concerns, please contact us before booking)

Restorative Yoga Workshop return to top
Helen click here for link to 'teachers'

Restorative Yoga is a nurturing and deeply relaxing form of yoga practice, in which we fully support the body in a series of adapted yoga poses using yoga props such as bolsters, blocks and (lots of) blankets. You stay longer in each posture with a less intensive stretches and encourage your body to surrender to the pose while experiencing relaxing rhythmic breathing.

Restorative Yoga is extremely beneficial for releasing stress and dealing with anxiety, chronic fatigue, M.E., insomnia, illness and injury, menstruation irregularities and postnatal recovery.

The aim is to induce complete physical, mental and emotional relaxation and by relaxing deeply, the body repairs and rejuvenates itself, a deep sense of inner peace is attained, vital to keep the body and mind healthy and in balance.

This workshop is open to anyone and everyone – we all need to rest more!

You will leave the workshop feeling more rested than you would do after a good night's sleep

Yin/Yang Yoga Master Class return to top
Polly click here for link to 'teachers'

This master class combines a quiet yin practice to open the hips, followed by high-energy vinyasa and standing sequences.

Yin Yoga honours the origins of Hatha yoga by concentrating on seated postures that work strongly into the hips through a series of forward bends, some twisting and back bending. We hold these postures for longer than usual in order to stimulate connective tissue and pranic or chi energy.

Then we get onto our feet and work in a more ‘Yang’ mode in a series of energising flow sequences that balance the quiet, intense yin practice. The Yang sequences will be demanding and fun: be prepared to sweat a bit!

This master class is suitable for those who practice any style of yoga and who are in good health
