More about Yoga.... back to top
Yoga is one of the world's most integrated systems of personal development. The term "Yoga" is a Sanskrit word meaning "to unite". Yoga is a means of restoring a healthier balance to body and mind so that you are better able to cope with the stresses and strains of modern life. We are specifically seeking to unify the body, breath and mind by linking movement, breath and relaxation

By focusing on the strength and flexibility of the spine, all the muscles in the body are stretched and toned; circulation, digestion and the nervous and respiratory systems are improved. A strong healthy body is produced by combining deep breathing, relaxation and concentration with the postures. Energy levels increase and the body regains its natural flexibility. Stress and tension are released, relaxing and balancing the mind, body and spirit. By practising yoga, one can maintain youthfulness and enjoy a wonderful improvement in your physical and mental well-being.

More about Sivananda Yoga....

Sivananda Yoga simplifies the complex philosophies and teachings of yoga into five basic principles. By incorporating these principles into one's own lifestyle one can develop and maintain the highest state of physical and mental wellbeing.

The five points:

Proper Exercise
Proper exercise (asana) acts as a lubricating routine for the joints and muscles and other parts of the body by increasing circulation and flexibility. The asanas not only produce physical benefits, but are also mental exercises in concentration and meditation, promoting optimum good health.

Proper Breathing
Proper breathing (pranayama) focuses on using the lungs to their maximum capacity and controlling the breath, which should be deep, slow and rhythmical. This increases energy, vitality and mental clarity, cleansing the lungs of stale air and eliminating toxins from the body.

Proper Relaxation
The release of tension through relaxation is vital to keep the body and mind healthy. By relaxing all the muscles deeply the body is rejuvenated and a deep sense of inner peace is attained.

Proper Diet
The greatest nutritional plan is a simple diet of natural fresh foods to supply our body with vital energy. The yogic diet is a vegetarian one, consisting of pure, natural foods which are easily digested and promote health, which will help attain a high standard of health, a keen intellect and serenity of mind.

Positive Thinking and Meditation
By entertaining positive and creative thoughts we can bring about vibrant state of health and a peaceful, joyful mind. A positive outlook on life can be developed by practising meditation; by calming the mind and bringing the focus inwards. If meditation is practiced on a regular basis, it can help to relieve stress, replenish energy and bring clarity of thought.

Pregnancy is a precious time in a woman's life. It is also a transitional time bringing many changes and opportunities for personal development.

Yoga is the perfect exercise for pregnancy, childbirth and the first few months after the baby is born. Yoga is a gentle and safe means of keeping your body toned and supple; of preventing or relieving the aches and pains of pregnancy, of relaxing your mind and body and of preparing you for the physical and emotional demands of childbirth and motherhood itself.

Our prenatal and postnatal yoga classes offer a holistic approach to pregnancy, birth and beyond, allowing you to nurture yourself and your baby and help you access your own intuitive understanding of this very natural process. You will be encouraged to find an inner-peace and discover the emotional link which joins you to your baby from the very beginning of pregnancy. Aditi Yoga Centre provides a safe, open environment allowing you to freely discuss any issues, from discomforts and concerns, to the wonderful new changes your body and baby are experiencing.

The classes are based on the Birthlight Organisation principles. Birth 'light' refers to giving birth lightly, without undue strain on the body.
